My mother was admitted to HRI in March and has just been discharged now to. Step down bed at St Mary's. I visited from Australia and was astonished at the complete lack of coordination in her care. She appeared to be under the care of a range of senior doctors, many of whom had different opinions on her possible diagnosis. A multidisciplinary meeting was promised on at least 5 separate occasions which did not happen. No one took her for a shower, on one occasion I found dried faeces on the sole of her foot and cleaned it off myself. Doctors and nurses made promises to keep us informed but failed to do so. The results of A gastroscopy which had been performed could not be accessed. An abnormal CAT scan was said to show possible lymphadenopathy but doctors all had differing opinions on what this might mean, including cancer. She was finally moved to the step down accomodation without a diagnosis. The lack of available information was astonishing particularly when I kept constantly asking. I am a nurse and my husband is a senior gynaecologist in Australia. We are more than capable of understanding medical information. Will someone please make contact and tell us what is going on? Does anyone actually care? On a rare positive note the OT and social workers were very effective caring and helpful. But these were small comforts in an overall miserable experience Help!
"Dreadful confused experience"
