Last night I had to visit a and e at medway. I was very sceptical about visiting here after the awful care my grandad received! But as it's now my nearest hospital I felt it was time to use it. I had spoken to 111 who said I needed to get to a and e as soon as I could. I arrived at the a and e to a dirty waiting room full of people. I took a seat and after an hour of waiting I was finally checked in! After another hour of sitting in agony with no pain relief provided I was finally seen by triage. I was taken through and they wanted to do blood pressure and ecg. I was in alot of pain and was struggling to keep still as it made the pain worse. After not being able to get my blood pressure after 3 failed attempts and it making my hand numb they gave up and moved on to ecg. They put the stickers on (in the wrong places may I add) they then attached all wires but could not get a reading. Aa nurse came in and went to me "if your not going to sit still I can't be bothered what's the point in trying to help you. We don't have 10 hours to spend with you" after this the nurse muttered something to another nurse in her own language. I was so upset by this as I had tried to cooperate as much as I could. I said that I was upset and should receive an apology but the nurse didn't care. The nurse then sent me to meddoc, even though I had sever chest and back pain! I went round there and they said they couldn't give me and appointment till 3.30am and at this time it was only 10pm. They sent me back to a and e as I could barely walk and my chest was restricting my breathing. I went back to a and e to which the staff told me to go to maidstone I then travelled to maidstone, I got pain relief within 10 minutes, blood pressure done as well as ecg straight away along with an x ray. I will never be going back to medway hospital and will continue to tell people that it is a disgusting hospital! Never been so upset by how I was spoken and the lack of care given
"visit to a and e"
