"manchester royal infirmary appointments"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

I recently had a letter changing an appointment, this gave me less than 6 days before the new appointment & I would have been on holiday then. When I tried to make another appointment instead I was told that I would have to wait 5 months for a new appointment if I couldnt come on the date they had now sent to me. This seemed very unfair given that the change was their fault. Even if it had been my fault with a genuine reason, 5 extra months when you have waited 8 months since last seeing a consultant is really not good enough.

Its so easy for hospitals to run their appointment systems for their own convenience isn't it? And Manchester Royal is certainly not alone in having policies that seem to favour their own needs over those of patients.

I'm sure that this mostly happens just because the internal pressures (consultants suddenly being unavailable, staff taking holidays and so on) are seen as more pressing and important than the convenience of patients.

But that just begs the question of how we can help organisations to change their policies? May be Manchester Royal would like to join the conversation? And I wonder what others think - just log your opinion into the Share my Story box on the home page or email us at info.patientopinion.org.uk
