"Breast Care Waiting Times - update"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

Further to my last entry, I had not yet received an appointment to attend for Ultrasound. I have telephoned XRay appointments to be informed that a referral had not been received from my appointment in March. I was advised to speak directly to the admin for the consultant concerned. After telephoning I was advised that my notes were in the office of the consultant and could not be accessed at this time, first question, why were my notes still in the office after nearly 3 weeks?

Anyway, secretary for consultant called me back and informed me that she had been able to access my notes, and the consultant I met with in March had INDEED written in my notes that ultrasound was required, however this referral had not gone through. I was then advised this consultant was currently on annual leave, and that the other consultant was in surgery all day today and it would be unlikely that the consultant in surgery would make a decision to fast track the referral to ultrasound on the other consultants behalf. Disgusted.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Jools43,

How distressing it is to wait for appointments and then find out that the referral has not been made. I am so sorry this delay has taken place and the uncertainly attached makes it worse for you I suspect.

I have made some enquiries and while I have none of your personal details, I think this referral may have been made and you are on the ‘pending list’. If you would like me to establish this for fact, please let me know your name and date of birth and I will check this further for you. You can phone me on 01563 826222 or email me on eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk

I hope we can confirm that your referral has now been made and perhaps have an approximate time scale for your appointment. I hope this is helpful to you,

Kind regards

Eunice
