"Outstanding service at outpatient’s cardiology."

About: Tameside General Hospital

I received an appointment to attend the Cardiology department for a Saturday and expected to see a team of overworked, demotivated and, perhaps even worse, disinterested and belligerent staff. I couldn't have been more wrong! On reaching the clinic I was greeted by a smiling and informative nurse, who pointed me to the seating area. Within five minutes I was called in for an ECG by the technician, who was also smiley, informative and hugely personable. After the procedure the technician explained they would immediately pass the results on and I would be called by a nurse to take my height, weight and blood pressure. Within five minutes these were carried out by a nurse who was also smiley, informative and personable. As the nurse was taking me back to the waiting area, they explained I would be seen by the consultant next and I was the next patient. Yet again, within five minutes I was called in to see the consultant and here, I feel, lies the key to the most super efficient, friendly, and informative service, who had the most wonderful 'bedside' manner. The consultant immediately put me at ease, telling me their full name, adding htheir first name. They gently proceeded to ask me questions, listening carefully then responding slowly and clearly in layman's terms, enabling me to assimilate everything. During the consultation, Dthe consultant was assisted by a nurse, who too was friendly and put me at ease. At the end of the consultation, the nurse handed me a BHF booklet and explained fully and clearly the procedures Dthe consultant had arranged for me to have. I walked out of the hospital feeling that I had been part of a very happy family set up, which I had been welcomed into with open arms. Thank you Dto the consultant and staff, Tameside Hospital must be justifiably proud of you and your department and should be the blueprint for all departments and UK Hospitals.

Thank you very much for posting your positive comments about the service you received which you say was well co-ordinated.

We are working very hard to improve patient experience here at Tameside; such as being seen in a timely manner and your comments praising your quick, efficient and friendly service show these changes are working.

Your feedback has been sent to the cardiology team

Kind regards

John Goodenough

Director of Nursing
