Care of the elderly

My mother is due to have emergency eye treatment today. She was given the appointment yesterday at 5 pm. This was apparently too late to arrange transport home so she is left having to find her own way home. The staff, when told she had no one to come with her or help her home just said 'oh'. I emailed and rang the hospital today. They have offered no help what so ever. The hospital's own website suggest her to take a 9 stage public transport journey home if she is too late for the last bus from Aylesbury to Hemel Hempstead. Otherwise she still has a three stage journey with two buses and a taxi to get home. This is apparently completely reasonable and there is no responsibility felt by staff to tell eladerly patients of their rights concerning help getting home. I have been stone walled by staff who just keep saying someone else should have sorted it out.
