"My in-patient experience last week"

About: York Hospital

I have a condition called Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder and saw a neurologist who assured me that a stay in hospital would help me with my condition and they would begin all tests again and leave no stone unturned to try and help me. My inpatient stay to be honest it was a waste of time as far as I'm concerned. They did one test...a head MRI scan (I only found out the MRI scan was normal on my discharge note) and the usual blood tests and thats it. The diagnosis on the discharge note told me what I knew already... I was in for 5 days and got out last Wednesday. I saw a Psychiatrist who said they didn't think my condition and the way I am now was psychological and said they didn't need to see me again. The neuro doctor disagreed and said that I still need to see a psychiatrist! I saw the neuro physio and was given 3 leg exercises and had to walk using parallell bars. This happened once and then the next day I was taken again to the gym and just about managed to do the leg exercises then had a seizure so needed to go back to the ward as was so tired. The doctor then came round and said that the hospital stay was basically a waste of time as my symptoms were so bad as an inpatient...I was having up to 6 seizures a day and my speech was coming and going all the time. The nurses just left me to it when I had seizures and were quite rude when I couldn't make myself understood due to my speech. I had one shower and was left on my own in the shower and had to wait over 10 minutes for them to answer my call bell when I couldn't reach my clothes so was sat freezing with just a towel round me. A cleaner helped me get back to my bed after that incident as I couldn't manage to carry my things myself. I also had a fall whilst in hospital and all they did was given me a leaflet on falls risks. I had more help from other patients and relatives of patients than I did from the staff. So basically I'm back to square one.....they promised all the tests again etc and got nothing and now have been left to get on with it again! I have had this condition for 6 years now and have got progressively worse. I will now be asking to be referred to another hospital who may be able to help me and have a little more empathy with what I am going through.
