From the first time I was first referred to the Urology department at the hospital in September 2014 I have received the highest level of care and treatment. My initial referral was to ascertain if I had prostate cancer. While there was no dignified way for the Urology Consultant to conduct the examination or the biopsy procedure it was handled sensitively and with compassion. In October 2014 it was confirmed I had cancer and that I would need treatment. Not the best news to receive but again it was delivered in the most sensitive way possible and I was also informed of and given the opportunity to discuss all my treatment options. Then followed a series of scans to determine whether the cancer had spread, this was for me terrifying because these results could/would determine my future. The staff who conducted these were fantastic. Finally we received some good news the cancer had not spread and was contained within the prostate, so I decided with my consultants to have my prostate removed. This was completed very successfully in January 2015. However the good news was tempered with further bad news. Whilst conducting the scans a completely unrelated lump had been spotted on my right kidney! There followed a further scan and it was determined that it was suspicious and that my kidney would need to be removed. This procedure was carried out on April 2nd 2015. I was released from hospital on Good Friday and am now on the road to a full recovery. This would not have been possible without the all the staff involved in my care at Torbay hospital. From the first day I was referred to the hospital I have received exemplary care. The support I have received has been amazing a special mention here to the specialist cancer nurse whose support and encouragement I cannot praise highly enough. I (and my partner) would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the hospital who have been involved in my treatment and care thus far. Their humour, professionalism and skills have kept me going through a very difficult time, and given me a future melodramatic? Maybe but these staff have in my opinion proven themselves to be a credit to Torbay hospital and the NHS.
"Fnatastic treatment!"
