"My father who was very unwell."

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111

(as a relative),

While on holiday with my wife, we had a conversation with my 83 year old father who had developed a range of pain and worrying symptoms that he could not explain. My father had rung 111 at 10 in the morning with his symptoms and was advised that a doctor would visit him at home.

As the time was now past 5 in the afternoon while we were having our conversation and no doctor had arrived or rung, we decided to call 999 in case his conditions needed urgent assistance. An ambulance car arrived within two minutes of the call going through and an exceptionally calm and professional para-medic managed to get my father stabilsed from his distressed state. After an hour she left my father feeling far better, almost pain-free and calm enough to sleep through the night for the first time in many weeks. No hospital visit was necessary.

Dear Mitini

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I hope your father is feeling much better now.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide excellent care to our patients when they need us most.

I would like to pass your kind comments onto the ambulance crew who came to your fathers aid. Would you be able to contact me, laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk or call 01392 453831, at your convenience, with the date and address that the ambulance attended? This would allow me to identify the staff involved and ensure they are recognised for the care they gave.

Please quote your Patient Opinion user name Mitini in your contact.

Thank you again for providing feedback on our service.

Kind regards

Laura
