"I visited the Fracture Clinic ..."

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I visited the Fracture Clinic to check the results of my MRI scan with the Orphodeadic consultant and immediately said I needed an operation and I was admitted to hospital for my operation that day! Within 2 hours I was in the operating theatre. The nurse looking after me in the Outpatients department was lovely and very friendly. All the staff in the operating theatres were also very nice. I was then admitted into hospital for the night. As I had been operated on my leg and was in a ward with patients who had similar problems, this meant we couldnt get out of bed and so had to keep buzzing the nurses for toilet assistance etc. The poor nurses were rushed off their feet as they tried to help everyone, administer pain relief and serve the dinners!

What could be improved

More nurses or assistants are needed to help with things like bringing meals and helping patients to the toilet. We had to wait some time occasionally which must have been uncomfortable to some ladies.

Anything else?

Overall the level of care was fine, just that the nurses need more help. Aftercare could be improved slightly I feel as I have no idea about physio and just have to wait 4 weeks to see a doctor. My local hospital (Newquay) refused to help me with my cast as they wont touch me as I've had an operation - how helpful!
