"Disgusted!"

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

My husband who is waiting to have an urgent triple coronary bypass in Manchester had travelled up to the Lake District to visit our son. He was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary after collapsing on a saturday morning and was told that he would be kept in overnight. At 7.30pm my husband rang me to tell me that the hospital had said he could leave and he explained to them that he had no money on him and his car was almost 30 miles away at my son's who unfortunately cannot drive so was unable to pick him up. They showed no sympathy whatsoever and he ended up having to dash to catch a train that was due to leave in 25 minutes and the station was a good 20 minute walk away whilst trying to find a cash machine in order to withdraw money to pay for the journey home, he caught a train from Lancaster to Windermere, having to change at Oxenholme and then paid £25 for a taxi from Windermere to Langdale. I am absolutely disgusted at the way he was treated especially given that he had been told that afternoon he would be staying in overnight as my daughter and son-in-law had planned to drive over and one drive our car home whilst the other drove my husband home.

We are really sorry that your husband’s experience at our hospital wasn’t what you would expect. We would need some more information from you in order to investigate fully and provide you with a response, and we’d therefore ask you to contact our Patient Experience team on 01539 795497 to allow us to carry this out. Thank you.
