"Never again!"

About: Croydon University Hospital

I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks last October and didn't have a booking appointment or scan which I understand as they can extend the scan up to 12 weeks. My problem is this, I went to my gp when I was 5 weeks pregnant to get referred to mayday for my second pregnancy and the doctor faxed the referral right in front of me. The doctor said to me that they would send me a letter for my first booking appointment and scan before 12 weeks and if I dont receive it I'd have to chase it up due to them being so relaxed. This should not be the case. I waited & waited and just after 11 weeks I gave them a call, they said they have "no details of me on the booking system" and that "there was possibly something wrong with the fax machine on that day". I just couldn't believe it. They said I'd have to come in and fill out a form - which wasn't possible as I wasn't in the area, or I'd have to print out a self referral form from the website and send it through the post, or I had to call my gp and ask them to re-fax the referral. I obviously picked the last option. I called my gp, who re-faxed it straight away and after calling them twice they said that I will have an appointment in almost two weeks time on a Friday, when I would be 14 weeks and 4 days pregnant. So I didn't have a booking appointment or a scan until then! I started to have brown discharge when I turned 12 weeks which progressively started to turn brighter and brighter, I was told to call my midwife... Which I didn't have! I just couldn't take it anymore nor could my husband. He decided to take me to his area in west London to go to the a&e in West Middlesex Hospital due to the terrible lack of care here. It was a drive throughout which I was experiencing contractions and heavy bleeding. I went to the a&e and they saw me quickly and referred me for a scan the following day. I passed a lump that night. When I went to the EPU they did an ultrasound and internal scan through which they concluded that I had had a missed miscarriage, they explained that the baby had died early on and they were shocked that I never had any scans or bloods yet especially since I had already had a miscarriage before. They were therefore unable to conclude when the baby had stopped developing. I said I was from Croydon and they just dismissed the conversation there as if they knew how bad it is anyway. They said if I have any problems to please come into the EPU in West Mid. Everyone already told me not to go through with my pregnancy at mayday, even people who don't live in Croydon!! If I had a scan between 8-12 weeks as I should have, I would have known that I was living with a dead baby inside me with false high hopes. I am so disgusted in the treatment of this hospital and I have heard of horrible experiences from friends & family due to the carelessness of Mayday University "Hospital". Mistakes happen, but this hospital continuously messes up in basic things like medical referrals, which makes me lose hope entirely!
