"Colonoscopy at Queens Nottingham"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus

(as the patient),

Last year I went to the QMC for a colonoscopy, the nurse’s were fine but the doctor doing my colonoscopy was terrible. I asked to be sedated because I was very very sore already, the nurse set it all up ready to be sedated. I lay on the bed and the doctor just rammed his fingers up my bum and I shot four foot up in the air, the nurse said don’t worry he’s just getting it ready for the tube, would have been nice to be warned! He then rammed the tube up my bum, I screamed and the nurse said do you want to be sedated, well yes, I asked that before we came in, why would I have a needle in my hand ready? She went to sedate me and the doctor just carried on ramming the tube up my bum, I was screaming and the nurse asked him to wait and he just snapped well hurry up then, she had to give me too lots to calm me down. The pain was unbelievable. I came round and didn’t realise I was on my side with my bum hanging out in full view of everyone walking past until a nurse came and covered me up. I felt like I was treated like a piece of meat, and the doctor was only interested in getting everyone in and out as soon as he could. My advise to anyone is if you want to be sedated make sure they give you the stuff before the doctor just gets on with it. If I had been sedated before the procedure started then my experience would have been fine.
