"pain is the game!"

For years now i have had a chronic lung disease and am more than aware of what i need and what i need to do should i get an infection. On Thursday morning i woke up with a pain in my chest and knew had a chest infection starting but just to be sure left going to the GP. I never slept on Thursday night because the pain kept me awake and none of my painkillers helped (co-codamol and oramorph) so i went to my GP - they sent me to A & E because i was short of breathe ( something i am used to) the problem was no one would listen to me about the pain - they only cared about the fact that i was short of breath, i expected to be given a couple of days strong painkillers and antibiotics and get sent home. I was so scared i was going to end up in ward 9 but was sent to ward 7. i was and still am in horrendous agony, but was told they would give me antibiotics ( even tho i told them the ones they where giving me where no longer working for me they insisted i took them) and offered me 2 paracetamol for the pain ( but i had told them that i had taken 10ml of oramorph 5 hours previously) apparently the strongest painkillers available are co-codamol and oramorph at WPH. all i needed was something to ease the pain for about 3 days because when the infection starts to go so does the pain - i wasn't getting any pain relief and have now been in severe pain for 2 nights - i am so tried - at 11am i was told i could go home - just needed to wait for the medication, at 12 i was told i cant go home till the drip was finished ( which would have been in the early hours of the morning because it was connected at 12 midnight and was set for 24 hrs but the thing kept stopping and the bleeping drove me crazy) so i asked again when i could go and was told i cant because the pharmacy closed at 12 ( who ever heard of a hospital pharmacy closing over the weekend - do the people of Berkshire stop getting hurt/injured/ill at lunchtime and wait till Monday at 8am?) Its now 6pm and i am in a lot of pain, i have tried not to lose my temper ( i usually get aggressive when i am in so much pain) in the end i told them they either released me or i signed myself out! i left with no medication and in a lot of pain - i still am but at least my GP opens at 8am tomorrow morning. I would like to say that because i could not sleep i saw a lot of what was going on overnight on Friday and there was a nurse (sister i think) who was amazing - there was a little old lady who was struggling and they never left her side except to ring the on call Dr , they stayed with her for a couple of hours trying to make her comfortable and didn't leave her side - not even when someone reminded them they had not had a break. My last 3 visits to WPH have convinced me that the trust only employs hard hearted uncaring people but i have to say this person was the jewel in the crown for the trust.
