My GP referred me to the service as a non-urgent case just in case my symptoms indicated colorectal cancer. Ten days after I received a call from the consultant's secretary just before midday asking if I could take up a cancelled appointment they had available at 4.10pm. I was fortunately able to accept this offer. I was readily able to find a disabled parking space (free of charge too) and easily wheel in to the building. Automated check in directed me to the almost adjacent waiting area. I had hardly settled down to read the Telegraph on my Kindle when I was called in to see the doctor. They were friendly and professional and treated me like an intelligent adult. They recognised and discussed the added complications of my disability and the progress with medication since I had seen my GP. We mutually agreed to wait two to four weeks and see if the symptoms continued to reduce. Two weeks exactly after my visit the secretary to the doctor telephoned me to check how I was progressing. I was able to tell them the symptoms were all gone and we agreed that they would take no further action unless I contacted them again. The level of service I received was unfaultable. It is the sort of service you might expect from a private consultant, but this was from the much maligned NHS. Well done MK General and the doctor.
