"A&E Kidney Stone and surgery"

About: Basildon University Hospital

Thank you for my treatment. I presented to A&E on Sunday 22nd March with renal colic. I was seen quickly and my pain was eased. I then had a CT scan and was referred for surgery. I had to spend longer than usual in A&E due to a lack of available beds and a very tired nurse couldn't find my notes, I found them in front of them on one of my many trips to the toilet. I was then referred to surgical assessment and had a stent fitted. I am now writing this from home, after two nights in hospital, one in A&E and one in the SRU. The care and attention that I received from A&E, SRU and all staff was outstanding. Every single staff member showed me compassion and care, carrying out their duties with utmost professionalism. This is the first time that I have undergone surgery and my nerves were alleviated by everyone, from the calm, friendly porters, to the anesthetists and after care nurses. I was shocked to see how long the staff on the wards work, as many of them worked for the majority of my stay. They were tireless, constantly on their feet and never stopping to care for themselves. They were clearly very tired and busy, but carried on to care for the patients.

We are pleased that your recent experience of care within accident & emergency and SRU at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was a good one. We will forward on your kind words to the departments concerned, who will be very pleased that their level of care and professionalism at a busy time, has been appreciated. Thank you
