"If I need hospital services I will be using..."

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

As a clumsy person who enjoys extreme activities I've visited a few hospitals in my life. Mostly Southampton general which is (through no fault of the ground zero workers) a nightmare. Winchester was completely different. Yes there was a wait, that's to be expected but it was not unreasonably long considering I didn't have bits in danger of falling off. When I was seen though that was the biggest difference. For once I didn't feel like it was a waste of their time. The wonderful friendly member of staff treating me assessed me thoroughly, considered the possibility that an ongoing condition may have an impact on what I thought was an unrelated issue and checked that out and off I toddled to xray. The wait time there was almost nonexistent and the radiographer super nice and efficient while also being gentle and not rush rush. When that was done I was seen again by the same nurse(?) who sent me, they clearly explained what they had found and what they hadn't and what came next. (Physio - sigh but not space boot - yay) they arranged that there and then (shocked and amazed me that bit) and it was a week away, not so far in the future that I couldn't poke it with a long stick. They also told me what I could and couldn't and should and shouldn't do in the meantime, advised me on pain management and checked if I had any questions and more importantly that I understood everything. Efficient, invested, empathic - big thumbs up Winchester. .... but please don't be offended when I say I hope I won't be back!

Thank you for your comments about your recent visit to our Emergency Department. It is always good to hear positive feedback on the care and treatment patients have received. I will ensure that the Emergency Department see these kind words and I am sure they will be greatly encouraged by them. Mary Edwards, Chief Executive Mary.edwards@hhft.nhs.uk
