"A&E was almost clean!"

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

A&E was almost clean!

What could be improved

Each time I was moved from A&E to another ward, or if a staff member came to see me, my partner was questioned, like he should not be there, I forget how many times I said it was OK, I WANTED him present. Prehaps this could be noted on the forms, together with the answers I gave to the last staff member, as I seam to have to answer the same questions every five mins.

Anything else?

I know Glos NHS claims to have single sex wards, but the fact is, it is NOT true. The staff need to be trained to respect and protect privacy. Some Trust's use a RED PEG on the bed curtains, when you are being examined, so other staff knock and wait. Cheltenham staff just seam to pull back the curtains, and come in, allowing the WHOLE WARD to see. This is the 21st CENTURY, not the Victorian times. Made me feel like a cheap PEEP show.

Another note, some times patients want to shut out the ward, a bit of self space, Each time I closed my curtains, the nurse just opened them, saying that they had to remain open, unless I was using a bottle!

We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your recent experience and thank you for taking the time to post your comments, which will be shared with senior staff.

It is not clear from this posting when you were admitted to hospital, but the Trust has recently implemented a new system of notices on the curtains around its beds, specifically in order to protect the dignity of patients, to which we are committed and which we recognise is extremely important to patients.

We do take the views of our patients very seriously and would welcome personal contact, because in order to look into your concerns in detail we would need more information.

If you would like to make contact please call the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 0193282.
