I wanted to write to convey to you the outstanding care I have received from everyone concerned at NUH throughout my illness. My illness was sudden, severe, and very unusual, and from the first, the care has been outstanding in every area, from the original liaison with my excellent GP practice, to the speed of the diagnosis, the diagnostic tests, and the ongoing treatment which was not straightforward, and which required input from a range of high level professionals. The team, led by Dr Pande, with Dr Gaywood, and the care I have received, have been second to none.
At every stage I was involved in discussions about the options, made aware sensitively that they were not clear-cut, and what the challenges were. Every professional made sure they made time for this, and, even when I was rather ill, that I knew exactly what was happening, and shared the results of tests clearly and immediately. At all times I could ask any question, however small. In addition, the nursing care on C53 was outstanding, and the entire team on the ward shared this, providing TLC over and above what one could expect, ensuring that, when I had very little independent movement, I maintained self-esteem and dignity in situations one hopes never to experience.
Happily, I have made better than expected progress, in which everyone shared great delight and satisfaction, and I am sure it is entirely due to the outstanding care I have received at NUH – and the fact (thank goodness) that I appear to be very healthy apart from this. I am going to require long-term management and have every confidence that this will also be of the highest order, and that we will be able to ensure I can go on working too, which is something else which has kept me going!
