"Cancer Patients should be treated with care"

About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital

On 10th March we attended a consultancy appointment for my father who has stage 4 stomach cancer. He stood for 25 minutes at the reception of the Linda McCartney centre in a queue with other cancer patients who had to have friends stand for them due to the heat and crowded environment. We arrived 15 minutes before his appointment we were still there 10 minutes after his appointment had passed. People were actually feeling sick in the hot crowded environment and asking for nausea tablets. One of the nurses actual came out looking very concerned for the welfare of all the patients waiting in the queue and they were wondering why it was taking the receptionist so long to process the patients who only wanted to basically check in. We were then told that we were in the wrong place and should be upstairs. No one told my father this after his first chemo, no one said consultations are in another place, no one said anything!! Forward to his 2nd chemo and you are advised that to save time you should have your blood test done the day before chemo but he lives 45 minutes away and they cannot guarantee that the bloods will be at the hospital in time by his local surgery, so he drives to liverpool the day before, at his expense to get them done and guarantee that they will be there on the day of chemo... No as when he got to the hospital for his chemo they have lost his bloods taken less than 24 hours earlier and he has to have more bloods and sit and wait in the crowded over heated reception for 2 hours before he has his chemo. He is home now and has had to take an anxiety tablet on top of all the other medication to calm him down as you can imagine he is very upset and very tired. Where has the dignity gone in treating people who have cancer and the care and attention to their needs, sorry no room for error.
