I suffer from fibroids and was seeking myemectomy surgery. I was unable to see a lead consultant but instead was seen by a member of their team. Consultant in question tried to persuade me to undergo uterine embolisation even though this procedure is unsuitable for my condition and not what I wanted. The biggest fibroid was measuring 16 cm. I also told them I wanted to preserve my fertility which the consultant totally dismissed and told me considering my age (41) that is very unlikely for me to get pregnant. Hospital is running clinical trials on uterine embolisation and it seems that is more important to them than offering the most suitable treatment for individual patients. I have completely lost the confidence in their ability and willingness to provide what's best for me. I wasn't even offered MRI scan or the hormone injections to try and reduce the size of fibroids prior to the surgery. I found consultants (previously seen a consultant at Queen Mary's) patronising and uninterested in my condition. Trying to cancel my appointment was almost impossible as they kept transferring my call from one department to another. I think I had to ring 6 times before I finally managed to cancel the appointment. In the end I decided to undergo surgery privately which was very successful and although very expensive worth every penny.
