As with maternity care, you always hear differing stories- but people forget to share the great ones. I had my second baby on 22/2/15 and was very impressed with the midwifery led unit. From the early hours of arriving, (4.30am as babies do!) the professionalism and care that greeted me was impeccable. From the porter who quickly greeted me to the wonderful midwives & the auxiliary & medical staff afterwards, I was thoroughly grateful. The surroundings were clean, peaceful & surprisingly relaxing. Having had my first baby prematurely & spent weeks on a neonatal unit- this was a totally different experience. Working as a GP myself, sometimes there is unfounded scepticism with these units & in my experience wrongly so. Being made to feel so comfortable no doubt helped ease the anxiety of being in a hospital & subsequently the birth. Home within hours on the same day- again bliss! Yet managing to be very well co-ordinated & organised. Thank you to everyone & well done! It's tough working in the NHS in current times & the love of the job clearly shows amongst all of midwives- including those visiting in the community. I will certainly be recommending MLU to my own patients & you can't get a better testimony than that.
"Outstanding MLU"
