"Not Happy with Medway Hospital"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Surgeons and Consultant excellent Breat Care Unit Wonderfull Breast Care nurses great.Week stay in hospital discusting Food not edible. Nursing poor due to fact not enough staff Nurses that not only can't speak English but don't understand either. I could fill pages of how bad it was Now this evening my Grandson at A & E head injury caused through accident at sport 6 hrs wait I can understand this if priority patients need treating but only patient in waiting room for over a hr. I telephone to enquire and was lied to first about the time he book in and two that he had seen a Dr ten mins earlier when we are 45mins on from that phone call and another and he has just gone in to be assessed. This hospital needs more nurses and they need to speak and understand our language. A dam good shake up and sort out. this hospital capacity cannot cope with the population of its area.

I am sorry to hear about your experiences in our Emergency Department. All patients presenting at ED have an initial assessment carried out by an experienced nurse within 15 minutes and it is our standard that all patients should be seen by a treating clinician within 1 hour and referred to a specialty doctor or have a treatment plan in place within 2 hours. When there are periods of high numbers of patients in the department this may not always be possible however we do strive to keep our patients fully informed of this. Whilst there may only be a small number of patients in the waiting room, the doctors may have been busy with patients in the majors area of the department. If you would like to contact me directly I would be happy to look into your concerns. Katy White Head of Nursing and Quality – Emergency Department 01634 830000 ex: 3847 katy.white@medway.nhs.uk
