"Appt system needs a good shake up"

About: Broomfield Hospital

(as the patient),

I received an appt for 0930 to attend A301 to have a blood filter put in place prior to surgery 4 days later.

I was seen in and advise I would not be going in until later in the afternoon. When I enquired why I was bought in so early I was told to get me ready. 7 hours to do a bit of paperwork and get changed! This took about 20 mins at the most. I went in at about 16. 30, I had had nothing to eat since 6pm the previous day and just half a cup of water.

It seems that this was not a one off due to unforseen circumstances it is normal practise to do this to people.

One lady also waiting had a 0930 appt was rung the night before and asked to go in at 0730 instead, she finally got seen about 10mins before me.

I understand that strict times cannot be adhered to but some consideration must be given to the patient who, let's remember, is often unwell.

It seems that everyone is bought in early morning no matter what time they will be seen.

This appt system and those that organise it needs a good shake up!

Having said all this the staff although under pressure were amazing and my procedure carried out by a very pleasant and efficient team.

So let's not hear excuses get this sorted!
