"My ear operation"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

I had a radical operation on my ear recently. To repair perforation, remove infection and infected bones. My care was excellent by all staff from the wards, operating theatres, recovery etc.

However I would like to add that having no surgery or emergency surgery at my local hospital (Fairfield, Bury) is putting a strain on the dedicated team at Bolton. On the morning of my op it took 21/2 hours to find me a bed and some ops were cancelled due to a busy night in A+E. This happened in January and I don't feel its fair for these people to be working under this strain. All hospitals in all towns should have A+E, emergency surgery, day surgery etc. Super hospitals are great but the system isn't coping and patients are miles away from family.

NHS Choices have only just posted this so I'm pleased to tell you that although it was very busy in the NHS in January, here in Bolton we have been making improvements so that there is less pressure on bed availablilty. Thank you for your comments on your care and we hope you are making good progress now.
