"Colonoscopy and gastroscope."

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I was refered by my consultant at monklands to attend for a double procedure called colonscopy and gastroscope. My consultant at the golden jubilee performing the procedure was lovely and very attentive towards myself, he showed manners and also was very reassuring in regards to information he was telling me about the procedure.

Before the procedure I was met by I think Cathy (think that was her name) who escorted me to the pre op in the outpatient theatres, she was lovely from the beginning made me feel at ease and lightened the mood. being a nurse myself I knew what I was in for and her presence made me feel at ease.

Cathy was very professional in everything that she done and was very good at putting in iv cannulation (some professionals take 3-4 attempts at this she got it in one! thank goodness, as being a needle phobic this helps), she even offered magazines to help calm the nerves while I was waiting to be taken to theatre. Whilst in the theatre waiting to be sedated the staff were very nice and calming, again the consultant doing the procedure was very professional, didn't rush me and reassured me at every step during the gastroscope part of the procedure, unfortunately the rest was a blur.

Whilst in recovery the staff were amazing, very calming atmosphere lights were dimmed, quietness and staff having one to one on each patient. My nurse was fantastic (blur with the name again) she was very gentle when taking my observations trying not to disturbed me whilst sleeping, once I came too and was more with it my nurse was very kind to explain what went on during the procedure what they done and what was found etc, she was very caring towards me and also calmed me when I was upset. I couldn't have asked for a better team to do the procedure, thank you for the care I received.
