I was seen initially by one surgeon and then, when I was offered a far earlier date than expected for my operation, was seen again another. I was most impressed by both doctors. Both came to fetch me from the waiting room not only calling me by name but offering their own names, and a hand to shake. Both made eye contact, had me sit beside the desk rather than across it so I could see the computer screen, and both gave me a thorough explanation of what was the problem and what they could do about it. Both made me feel respected, listened to and a part of the decision and were prepared to give me a lot longer than I needed to make a decision on the route to take. Both - perhaps one the most - made me feel I could ask anything I wanted and were honest and fulsome in their explanations. I was most impressed by the culture obviously fostered at the Royal – this way of doing things has not been my experience at another hospital. And the operation itself was faultless – I had no concerns at all when I walked down to the theatre, and my confidence was well placed. I would like to thank the whole team and especially my surgeon – have been singing the praises of the Royal Preston’s neurosurgery team and will continue to do so. And while we're talking about it...please also give heartfelt thanks to whoever it was in the appointments section who, when i rang in November to explain i had been over a year in pain seeking a diagnosis and had been offered an initial appointment with neurosurgery for 16 January, found me an appointment on December 16th. And then rang me ten minutes later to ask if I could make it to Preston the following Monday (24th november) as there had been a cancellation. I had been in acute pain. This member of staff not only restored my faith with their kindness, they got me to help so much sooner. In the end, i had the operation on january 10th.
