"Concerns about delay in diagnosis"

About: Brighton General Hospital / Respiratory medicine Southlands Hospital / Respiratory medicine Surrey and Sussex Worthing Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as the patient),

I rarely needed to see a doctor. my first visit eventually ended in hospital for 10 days.

Another visit was due to an extended period of a breathless panic. I was told I had COPD.

I can't fault the GP's prescription. I can fault his care; I feel that his treatment of me was negligent.

Over a period of 5 years, I would email my doctor when the breathing appeared worse. He knew I wasn't the sort of person to make an appointment unless something was really wrong. I had to make appointments which ended with nothing really being done. same meds, see asthma nurse. Finally the condition got so bad I demanded some aggressive action be taken. An MRI scan was then ordered. The result being my condition had deteriorated to the point that now any treatmet is no longer possibe.

Why did I have to demand action? The results over this 5 year period should have been enough.
