My wife's hip op (Monday) has been cancelled today, as we were leaving for a blood test. She saw a consultant 5 Nov 14 and was promised the op would take max 12 weeks, end of January 15 waiting time. Time dragged on an eventually she was given 9 March (btw, her letter said Monday 9 February, but that was clearly another error). She has been today offered no alternative date just told her surgeon has an urgent op to do instead of her Monday. Why can't my wife have her op Tuesday? Surely everyone just has to move one day back? To be left in pain and in limbo is just inexcusable. The case administration has been incompetent throughout. Dates mean nothing, apparently, letters contain mistakes and cancellations come with no thought for rearrangement. No way to treat taxpayers. As for the urgency of others, her pain is extremely urgent but she does not create a fuss. Her waiting time now is completely unacceptable and beyond what our commissioners advised us -and some. We will now make a formal complaint to our commissioners that this waiting time has been unfairly managed to my wife's significant harm and distress. My wife worked 35 years as a headteacher of a secondary school. She has only once called on NHS service in her life (a morning in casualty). She has rarely been to trouble a GP. She has paid in hugely to NHS and the one time she calls on its services she is being treated very poorly. You have spent lavishly on Lister Treatment Centre (very nice) but your management remains third-class. We intend to complain formally unless she is offered an appointment next week.
