"Welcome to the ward"

About: King George Hospital

The standard letter of instructions says on arrival you will be welcomed by a nurse and measured for compression stockings which you will wear for the duration of your stay. By putting the two facts into the same sentence this implies the two actions will be done at the same time. So why was I welcomed at 8.00 onto the ward after arriving at 7.00as instructed in the same letter, and not measured and fitted with stockings as 12.25 just before going into the operating theatre? How does this help to prevent anything?

Thank you for your comment. I am sorry our staff did not give you the information you needed when you visited our hospital. We do have leaflets available, and I have asked the matron for urologhy to look into why this did not happen. If you need further assistance, please contact the department, or our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk. Yours sincerely Wendy Matthews Interim Chief Nurse
