As a 74 year old male I have today come home after my second full knee replacement, the first being carried out in October 2013 and all I can say is that both experiences were extremely pleasant (as far as surgery an be pleasant) both operations were carried out by the consultant under the Spinal Block procedure. They are in my opinion a very pleasant and accomplished surgeon. The operations were carried out with a minimum of fuss and maximum care for the patient and both were a great succes As far as the Ward is concerned, the standard of care and cleanliness was beyond reproach and I was very impressed with the standards in Shopland Ward. In both cases I was actually in hospital for only 48 hours and would recommend Southend Hospital as a Hospital that cares. If I had to find fault, then I would have to say that the food could be a little better, although it was of an acceptable level and not uneatable. In conclusion, I must mention the new system for reporting for an operation whereby patients report to the"Elective admissions lounge" this is a vast improvement on the last system whereby you took up valuable bed space in the ward whilst waiting to go for surgery. In all I found the Hospital very aware of its patients requirements and certainly in my case did its best to accommodate and address those requirements
