"excellent care"

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services

I recently stayed in the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton for the birth of my first child. It was a long labour, but the staff were amazing. I was kept informed of what was happening throughout the labour. The rooms were clean and of a good size. We were given a room while we were going through the stages of labour. When it comes time we were taken to the delivery suite. The maternity hospital is undergoing a refit. The windows have been replace and the wards are now quite warm, despite it snowing whilst I was in there. Some of the decor is dated, but that's hardly of concern or relevant. The staff were all incredibly friendly and very helpful. They reassured me and my husband throughout. I was also very impressed with the hospital food. You had a menu to choose from in advance, including such things as cottage pie, casserole, and fish. All had a choice of potato options and veg or salad. There was a choice of deserts from fruit, yoghurt, ice cream and such things as fruit pies. It tasted fresh, was hot and the proportions were a good size too. It was as good as my home cooked meals if not better! Essential for when people are not feeling their best. I had to have stitches under general anaesthetic as for medical reasons I couldn't have an epidural. The staff again really reassured me before and after the procedure. The follow up care was excellent. The midwives helped me breastfeed, which I wouldn't have managed without their support. They showed me different ways of positioning baby whilst feeding. There were ready made formula options for those not wishing to breastfeed. There is a payment required to park in the car park outside the unit, but you could buy a weekly pass at the machine for 7 pounds, great for my husband coming and going, or for frequent visitors. Overall I could not fault the whole hospital team or experience in any way. I'd recommend George Eliot for anyone wishing to have their baby in this locality. I'd like to say a big sincere thank you to all the staff for their help in bringing my baby safely into the world!
