"Infection after pacemaker fitted"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Cardiology

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public who wanted to remain anonymous. They said...

This lady had a pacemaker fitted. The operation went well but she got an infection and had to have 1 ½ litres of fluid removed. She felt this wasn’t picked up quickly enough, and it took a long time for her to feel well. She is now active again but feels she had a bad experience.

’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
