"Outstanding, Above and beyond, A home away from..."

The care, respect, communication and treatment on ward 30 at APH is outstanding, Highly recommend to anyone. It became a safe haven, a home away from home, and a place of many friends... My mother was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma in 2002, and spent many a day on ward 30 as an in or an out patient. After being diagnosed with MDS in 2012 she was on the ward every other week. In 2014 she was admitted with an infection and ended up having an accident while she was in, this was nothing to do with the care she was given, just her being stubborn and trying to do more then she was capable of on her own. Anyway she went through a couple of head operations to remove blood clots and spent 6 months recovering. After never making it home at the end of the year, and constantly ending up back in ward 30 from different care homes, at the end of December 2014 the MDS took hold and leukaemia set in, with her passing away peacefully on ward 30 a week later in Jan 2015. After loosing my dad suddenly in 2012 and living and working in London, getting up to see mum was very difficult, but the staff and care were outstanding. - I was able to communicate with the staff on the phone (password protected) about mums care - Over the months i got to know them and it became more like calling a friend. - They were so caring to mum from a friendship view, when they had chance some of the nurses would go and chat to her, read to her, and just be a general friend. With Dad and I not being around she didn't have visitors every day like a lot of the other patients. - If she fancied something to eat, they would help get that for her. - When she was really ill, they help provide pillows / recliner chairs / fold out camp bed for me to stay on over night. - When she was in her final stages and couldn't talk / move, they carried on with the same level of care, seeing how she was doing, talking to her, making her comfy etc etc. - When I had to leave in the evenings in the last week, as she was stable but so unwell, the nurses would move their computer trollies down to her room, so that most of their work could be done there, meaning they could keep a closer eye on her. There are another 100 points I could put up here to say how amazing the team of staff are on this ward, really go above and beyond what their job is, and have the highest respect for the staff and the work they do.
