My 98 year old Mum went to Springwood three years ago and has received care over and above anything we could have expected. I am a regular visitor and the first thing I notice when I go through the door is how lovely it smells. The beds are always nicely made and are changes every two or three days. The regular staff are brilliant, although recently I have been seeing a lot of new faces, which can be disruptive for the elderly residents.

I can't speak too highly of the staff - from the manager (Anita), team leaders, particularly Dee and Anne, carers who readily spring to mind - Helen, Tracey, Sam - and many more - right down to the cleaners. The residents there are often taken out, participate in games and "sing songs" etc.

If my mother is unwell, we are contacted immediately. If necessary, a doctor is called - and my sisters and I get the overall feeling that she is very well cared for. All I can say is "God bless Springwood"!

A letter such as yours gives us all a moment to stop and celebrate what we have been fortunate enough to achieve. The hard work and diligence by some exceptionally caring people at Springwood have made a difference in the lives of those we serve, as well as in the job satisfaction we sometimes feel. In today’s world to encounter such well-being and appreciation is rare and should not be taken lightly by those who provide it. And yet it is the very reason that most of us keep going. A kind remark, somebody noticing our efforts, that smile and heartfelt ‘thank you’ from a resident or family member… this keeps us turning in day after day, year after year. How many people can say that in their work they have the power to change a person’s life for the better? The caring professions, with all the current problems and difficulties, offer not only the greatest challenge but the highest rewards. Nothing less would have kept me here for these 30 years. It is for the younger generation and the newer citizens among us to carry on this vital work. I understand completely your concern for ‘new faces’ on the corridors. At 98 we are not up for so many changes. But if a new face can carry the torch and shine with the light of human compassion towards older frail members of society, can listen to older voices and learn their words and ways, and can treat them with the dignity and respect that elders deserve, then I welcome new faces among the old, where they can learn from the best, and raise the care of older people to the levels you have so beautifully expressed. Thank you from all of us at Springwood.
