"Doncaster Midwife @ Basetlaw"

On the 5th Feb 2015, I was admitted to the labour ward of Basetlaw hospital at 40+1 weeks pregnant after been in slow labour for 4 days! The care which I recieved during the night of the 5th was disgusting from all midwives and HCAs due to lack of staff! I was left with no pain relief, no support and vomiting all over my room, which never got cleaned up, and basically left to get on with my labour! As a first time mother, at 21 I was terrified, exhausted and ready to give up! Therefore when shift change come along, I was so relieved to gain a midwife who had come on shift to help out from Doncaster! From the moment this individual entered my room, and saw what a mess I was in, my whole labouring experience turned around... The care and compassion which I recieved from her was unbelievable... She gave me time; and the care which I had expected... She followed my birth plan, and followed up with ever promise, making me trust her, and enjoy my birthing experience! Not only that, she was emotionally supportive, with both myself and my birthing partners... Having time to explain everything which was going on, making my labour a relaxed experience! Unfortunately, things did not go to plan, and due to a long complexed labour my baby boy was delivered by a emergency c-section on the 6th Febuary 2015! He arrived safely thanks to this wonderful midwife, who spotted abnormalities on the monitor which was originally ignored and played down by a senior midwife! Not only did this midwife provide me with the perfect care, but she supported me through the c-section, and was there when I woke up from the general anaesthetic as she had promised not to leave me! I believe that this wonderful woman, is one of the few people within the NHS who delivers their care with the compassion which is needed to their patients, I really wouldn't have been able to bring my beautiful baby boy into the world without her! I feel that somebody should make her aware of what a wonderful job she is doing; and other midwifes should be made to follow in this young woman's footsteps!
