I was admitted to the hospital to receive day surgery on a fistula. Having never been under general anaesthetic and having a fear of needles I was rather daunted by the prospect of surgery. The first nurse I saw was amazing. He reassured me and showed a great deal of kindness and understanding. He explained the process and how the day would run. I was introduced to the surgeon and the anaesthetist - both of whom were awesome and a credit to their profession! The anaesthetist in particular was very kind and reassuring. She helped allay my fears about undergoing general anaesthetic. When it was my turn to go in for surgery I was taken over by a health assistant who, having seen that I was very nervous talked to me and kept me distracted until the anaesthetist and her assistant were ready. They were both excellent! I was even allowed to choose music to listen to whilst they administered the anaesthetic. Much to my embarrassment when asked what I wanted the only band I could think of was S Club 7! So I went under listening to very cheesy pop music from my childhood! When I came round the care I received from all was outstanding. Sadly as I was a little bit drowsy I dont remember any names but all the nurses were brilliant! They took extremely good care of me and I felt well looked after. The surgery has been a success and has greatly improved my quality of life. It was well worth having. I am indebted to the wonderful staff who dealt with me. I was impressed by every member of the staff I came into contact with. They are a credit to the NHS and the medical profession. I would strongly recommend this hospital as a place to receive treatment.
