Major knee surgery. Was not told I would have to stay in overnight therefore had no things with me. Woke up in utter agony, staff in resuscitation room fantastic and was kept with them till a bed was found. From there it all went downhill, unable to get out of bed so asked for a commode. Waited three hours to go to the toilet as nobody returned, hadn't eaten pre op and was given nothing post op therefore 3 days with no food. No access to water and it wasn't offered until blood pressure went through the floor. Told to keep taking painkiller through pump and as much as possible, then was told I'd taken too much so I wouldn't be allowed home. Nurse in charge had a terrible bedside manner and despite my obvious distress about being hungry and thirsty and in pain I was ignored. Eventually discharged myself so was therefore told I wouldn't be issued with any pain medication or a sick note. Was cleared to leave by physio however she with the terrible bedside manner seemed hell bent on making my stay as awful as possible. Canular removed from my arm only to be told I still needed it as antibiotics still needed to be administered. Six attempts at the canular by two different nurses using my arms and hands like a pin cushion they gave up, no antibiotics for me! So here I am at home with no painkillers no sick note and no antibiotics. To be honest the most traumatic day of my life, I wouldn't wish that quality of care on my worst enemy. When I hear horror stories about the elderly dying of dehydration in uk hospitals I always wondered how on earth such a thing could happen, I now know first hand.
