"No appointment given for pain killers"

About: NHS Highland (Health)

(as the patient),

I am 19 years of age and have been diagnosed with sciatica In my lower back. I recently phoned my GP asked about my pain killers weather I could get them a day early as I have ran out. He said no so I asked him about my pain killers that I'm on if I could make an appointment about them as I have been on them for a good while and that they are really addictive paracetamol/dyhdrocodine 30/500.

He said to me (before swearing at me might I add) that I wasn't allowed to make an appointment.

In my eyes he is out of order and I'm really not happy about it at the fact I feel he refused me free NHS medical help.

Dear IainM

Yikes this doesnt sound at all helpful. I am really sorry to hear that you are in pain and not getting the help and support to manage your pain. A little more information would be helpful as this would allow me to direct you regarding some next steps.

In the meantime (and this is not a fob off) it may well be helpful to discuss with your local pharmacy as they may be able to offer some immediate advice re pain control. You can call me on 01463 704722 or email maiimie.thomposn@nhs.net and once I know a bit more I will liaise with colleagues. Thank you for letting us know of your concerms through PO and I am sorry for your poor experience of care.
