"Choice of GP"

About: Northumberland Care Trust

(as a carer),

We recently moved from Sussex to Northumberland; the small very rural village we have removed to is predominantly agricultural, white and middle class - the locals are very used to helping themselves and therefore, we imagine, bothering their local GP is not something that they often do. I make this observation because the local GP (ONE OF TWO), comes from an era when people were grateful for the pearls of wisdom that dripped from their doctor's lips. In his treatment of my husband I have found him to be arrogant, unhelpful and very aware of his own importance. Within weeks of our first meeting it was more than obvious he had slotted us into the pigeonhole in had in his head and that, very much, has been that. We feel that my husband's treatment has fallen very much short of the level we were receiving-to the point that he has taken himself back to Sussex in an attempt to get back with the excellent GP we had. I had been blissfully unaware of the vast difference in patient care etc within the NHS and kick myself that I should have been so ignorant. Patient choice? not in the rural world.
