"Excellent compassionate care for myself and my son"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

My son fractured his wrist in Italy and had a very negative experience of care delivery in Italy ( no pain relief). Once he arrived home I contacted Fracture Clinic at SRH - we were provided with an appointment and seen on time by very kind and caring staff in all areas ( receptionists, doctors and nurses, plaster room, x-ray). Unfortunately, he need to be admitted for further manipulation. The consultant understood his fears from his recent experience and gave him time to process what was needed and to agree to being admitted the following day so that the process could be managed pain free with an anaesthetic. We left that day with clear instructions from the trauma coordinator for the following days admission. The following day we arrived to a warm welcome on F63 who also understood my sons fears and ensured that he never felt a thing throughout the whole process and that he understood what was happening. Again, all staff regardless of their role were fabulous on the ward and in all theatre areas. I am a nurse myself and felt proud of the NHS. My son is now recovering well - thank you to everyone involved.

Thank you for your feedback. We will ensure this is shared with the teams in the Fracture Clinic and Ward F63 who will really appreciate the time you've taken to do this. We hope your son is continuing to do well.
