"my partner's sciatica"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley)

(as a relative),

my partner went to the rah this morning in terrible pain. first of all can I thank the doctor who diagnosed that she was suffering from sciatica. the doctor couldnt be more helpful and put her mind at rest because she had no idea what was wrong with her. but to the member of staff who thought she should have been at her gp then I hope you never have to go through the pain she has suffered in the last 24hrs.

Dear Annoyed Partner

We're glad that you were eventually satisfied with the medical care given to your partner when you visited the RAH recently.

Thank you for your positive comments about this, even though you had some reservations as well.

Hospital A&E departments are frequently under pressure with high numbers of patients arriving. In some cases staff can suggest other places with appropriate care for patients, rather than waiting in A&E.

This helps to reduce the demand in A&E and shortens the time to be seen for A&E patients.

Additionally, this process can reduce the waiting time for patients who can be safely directed to an alternative which is appropriate for their care. This means they do not have to wait in A&E.

In your case, as you correctly point out, someone who is experiencing severe pain should receive urgent attention, and we are glad this was addressed by the A&E medical staff for you.

I hope this is helpful as an explanation of what we have deduced were the circumstances of your visit.
