"Unhappy with treatment for my foot at Harlow Walk In Centre"

About: Harlow Walk in Centre Princess Alexandra Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Last year, I waited for about 2 hours to be seen at Harlow walk-in centre, which was expected. However I had to return during the same week about the same issue numerous times, and once I waited 4 hours to be seen. I thought my injury was minor and treatable at the Walk-in as I had an insect bite and a swollen foot.

I am very disgusted by the Walk In Centre Harlow because the antibiotics I was given first were correct but such a low dosage it had no effect (this is what I was advised by the Princess Alexandra Hospital).

When I returned because my foot had swollen so much I could barely walk on it, they gave me water tablets. I have been advised these harmed my health as I was only 18 at the time, and they are for elderly patients. It ruined my electrolyte system and I have to take potassium supplements because a nurse prescribed me with the wrong medication.

I was unaware of this at the time and came back as my foot got worse. I was prescribed another form of antibiotics, luckily i got seen straight away as I was making such a fuss, i could feel the skin on my foot burning with itchiness and begged for a lotion to fix it. They gave me a prescription for the antibiotics which i took for a day.

The next day I decided to go to A and E because I couldn't bear it anymore and was told I had extreme cellulitus and had been given completely the wrong medication from the Walk In Centre Harlow, and I was now at risk of need of an operation as my flesh and muscle in the foot may be dead. I was advised to be prepared for the worst and in some cases amputation may be needed.

I was furious! I was given the wrong medication from the nurses at the Walk In and returned 3 times in pain and was advised it would soon be ok and was given crutches.

On my 3rd visit in the consultation room I was told to wait by the nurse while she was on the computer finishing with the last patient and she didn't even touch or examine my foot but simply prescribed me the wrong antibiotics.

I hope this review will help others.
