"Epilepsy care in event of Tonic Clonic seizure"

I was a member of staff working in an out patient department, I also have uncontrolled epilepsy which is known to staff and managers!

I had a seizure and the registered nurse on duty did not know how to manage it. I was moved, when not in danger, put in an upright wheelchair and taken to a quiet area and left with my husband who is not medically trained. I was having complex partial seizures, quite significant ones and there was no means of contacting staff and there was no access to a call bell for my husband.

I did not know what was happening and it has upset my husband as he was very worried about me. This hospial is a foundation trust and one would expect better treatment.

I had injured my legs and ankles and no suggestion was made to get them xrayed or treated. I felt that the staff nurse wanted me out of the department so that she could go home.

I was off for a month and my boss decided not to do anything about it as she felt i should tackle the nurse who dealt with me.

I felt that to be inappropriate and it is now subject of a complaints procedure.

I could have died and i was very ill afterwards and feel that something should have been done and still feel that training should be given to qualified staff at induction on treating major seizures to prevent status from happening.

I now train health care staff in Epilepsy awareness to get better standards of care for people with epilepsy.
