"Great staff even though the time scale is frustrating"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Emergency Department Stepping Hill Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Admitted on two consecutive weekends with suspected appendicitis. The staff were fantastic especially Sister Sally, Diane, Pat, Christina and Louise to name a few. The ward was clean and friendly. Unfortunately due to being admitted on Fridays I feel the frustration for me was that everywhere seems to work with fewer staff over the weekend. Therefore trying to get Scans and blood results was a nightmare. I am sure this frustrates the staff as much as the patients. I also think it's a national problem. The NHS really should be a 24/7 service.

Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased to hear that our staff were fantastic. We do provide 24/7 services in blood sciences and a shift system is in place. With regard to scans, there is an ultrasound list on both a Saturday and Sunday, although the slots are for urgent scans and the wards decide which patients require the scans. The CT service at weekends is for urgent cases only. I hope this information is helpful. I will feedback your kind comments about staff to those involved.
