"I find the belief that I will mess up demotivating"

About: Guernsey House / Primary care addiction service (Wicker clinic)

(as the patient),

My current dose of methadone is 50ml. I have for some time wanted to reduce this in order to move onto subutex and then to detox but I am told subutex is not available to me. I have to have suboxone which I have heard a lot of bad things about. I have been reducing myself but my doctor tells me this is too much too soon and wants me to take more time. Right now I am really motivated but feel I am getting no where and just meeting barriers all the time. I find the belief that I will mess up demotivating.

Suboxone is subutex plus naloxone - this has been added to stop people injecting the drug. The naloxone only works when the drug is improperly used and injected. Dissolved under the tongue the naloxone is inactive, and works in exactly the same way as subutex.

The reason we are using suboxone is to cut down on diversion of the drug to the street.

You can have subutex, but it would be under supervised consumption.
