"The Harry Flaxington Moore Trophy - for St James's"

In August 2007 we went into St James's Hospital for our second scan. A routine procedure, we thought, I was 25 weeks gone, it was our first child and we were both healthy, but on that day our world fell apart.

There were unusual problems found with our baby that suggested a chromosomal abnormality.

Dr Glanville was wonderful, patient and understanding and explained everything to us in detail about what would happen. Blood and tests were taken and Dr Glanville telephoned with the results a couple of days later. Our baby boy had patau syndrome. Dr Glanville talked to me and my now husband in depth about what our options were, we cried together in the little side room and over the next week made the agonising decision to save our son from pain.

We were booked into the snowdrop suite on Friday 7th September 2007. Harry Flaxington Moore was born at 2.58am on Saturday 8th September 2007. We loved him immediately and although he was only with us for a short while, when he slipped off we knew we'd done the right thing for him. My husband and I cannot thank the hospital staff that were on duty that night enough, our midwife Maggie was amazing and Dr Glanville came to see me in the morning to see how we were doing.

Her words of encouragement to try again have never left me, although as yet we have not been blessed with another child. The bereavement councillors and chaplain took the pressure away from us and organised and paid for the funeral. We could not have done this on our own.

We always wanted to try and thank St James's, and this year we are able to do so. We have arranged a football tournament and charity auction in our son's name with all proceeds going to the Snowdrop Suite and bereavement councillors. It is to be held on Sunday 13th September 2009 and we very much hope that we raise as much money as possible for a very worthy cause. If we could raise money for a second suite, away from the maternity ward, that would be our goal.
