The treatment I received from the oral maxillofacial department at Barnsley Hospital while having my minor operation was first class. I was greeted pleasantly and informed of what the procedure was each step of the way. I was reassured by the staff the whole time I was there, 50 minutes in total. I discovered later that the gentlemen who performed the operation was a locum. His manner was extremely polite and pleasant as was that of both nurses. This was in contrast to my first consultation when the gentlemen I saw, although good looking lacked any bedside manner. I was given very little eye contact and I found his manner towards me very negative. I asked him if he would have the operation done if he were me and I was arrogantly informed that he would never be in my position. Not what you need when you’re very anxious anyway and looking for reassurance.
