"my labour and my knee"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

Well when I was pregnant with my son they left me and didn't bother about me. I kept saying I feel constipated another say well your only two centimetres and this was nearly 9 hours later since they checked me and my sons head was nearly out. they went omg and rushed me into the labour room. now I can't fault the lady who delivered my son she was amazing but the other girls wasn't so helpful.

now on to my knee well I went to the hospital only a couple of days ago as my knee had locked and I was unable to walk the lady who seen me said oh you have done something to your knee and all she gave me was ibuprofen and knee exercises and forced me to try and straightening my leg when I couldn't. I tried to explain that it's locked it's happened before but not for 12 hrs and now 3 days later I am still in pain. also another thing the nurse told me to keep my weight off it but didn't supply me with crutches and now my knee is swollen badly that the veins are visible on the knee cap and I can't move it at all.

I visited the hospital again on Saturday morning and got told I've sprained it now this nurse didn't feel my leg all she done was look at it and said it's sprained well how can she tell this if she is just looking at it.

I have had numerous of bad times with Wishaw general and so has my mum so as from now I won't be using Wishaw general and would not recommend it to anyone

Dear Lanarkshire1,

Thank you for getting in touch. I am very disappointed to hear that the care you received was not the standard we would have expected, thank you for complimenting the Midwife at the birth of your baby.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further and if you could contact our Patient Affairs Manager, Yvonne Ross on Tel: 01698 366558 for further information we will arrange for the appropriate person to also discuss with you the concerns regarding your care in labour and knee injury and the subsequent care and treatment you received.

Kindest wishes

Wendy

Update posted by Lanarkshire1 (the patient)

Hi Wendy thank you for getting back to me my labour was on 2008 so I have kinda got over it but my knee is swollen really badly and the nurses I seen I felt like they didn't really care as my knee is locked I can't do anything can't even have a shower or get about the house I have read that if it's a tear in the knee and if its locked it's a severe injury as it could be a bit that's lodged between the joints I feel depressed because I can't do nothing. nhs24 sent me down the second time and the nurse just stood there no x-rays or anything was done just looked at and forced to try and straighten it and now I have not had a good sleep at all at night I can't go on any longer with the pain it's unbearable.
