My waters had already gone on the 15th so I had to stay in on my own as a first time mum. on the evening of the 16th went out to the staff on the desk and informed them I had not felt many movements that day and was in pain. they told me to go back to bed and see How I am later. the nurse wasn't very nice or helpful luckily it was shift change. I went back out to the night nurse and told her she put me on a monitor and asked to check me. turns out I was 3cm but the baby's heart beat was dropping. everyone I had a contraction she put me down in a chair and packed all my things for me. I was so grateful. my partner and mum arrived in time. after having few extra checks etc my son was born. it seemed the staff left straight away. they took my son as they said he needed antibiotics. there was blood everywhere. my mum ended up cleaning it up. they ran me a bath which I said I didnt want. she came back and made me get in it I started bleeding everywhere. they were no where to be seen. my mum found a staff member to come and check me. by then a hour had passed. we asked where our son was, someone said they would check. they brought him back very covered up and said it was shift change so he had been left whereever it was they took him. myself and my partner then took my stuff back up to the ward with my son and because it was 6am he was told to leave so me being exhausted had to stay awake and feed and look after my child until he was allowed to come back at 12 seems like there is not much thought for new mums in this case,
Also my sister was in the next bay as she had a cesarean I found myself having to help her as no staff seemed to be around much,
Some of the staff were fabulous and I don't feel I had a bad time I just feel it's a bit impersonal and it's luck of the draw as to whether u get nice staff or not.
I am currently in my first trimester and dreading going back as I have heard horror stories about the birthing centre and people giving birth on beanbags and forced to have birthing pools etc but we will see. only thing that sounds better is partner can stay in luciana centre
"A bit impersonal"
